Before for non-stocked or specialty vertical devices may be activated on AT&T's wireless network, they must be certified by AT&T. AT&T Network Compatibility Device Certification helps to ensure that end users will have an optimal experience when using a device with AT&T's wireless service. AT&T certification is an advantage for equipment manufacturers and for customers because it assures the highest possible level of quality.

Step 1. devCentral membership

If you are seeking certification for your Enterprise software application, the first step is becoming a devCentral member. If you are not already a devCentral member, register now. Standard level membership, which is required for certification, is free.

Step 2: Review the AT&T Certification Testing Overview Guides

The detailed Enterprise Solution Certification Requirements provide information about the standards and qualifications for AT&T Solution testing.

Step 3: FCC and PTCRB Certification

Before non-stocked specialty devices can be accepted for network certification, two primary criteria must be met:

Testing and certification for both FCC and PTCRB are performed by independent testing facilities.

The FCC and PTCRB boards, or independent testing facilities, determine the costs of FCC and PTCRB testing, required for non-stocked specialty devices. Although there are charges associated with FCC, PTCRB and other independent testing, AT&T does not charge for Network Compatibility Testing of devices.  AT&T is in no way affiliated with the pricing structure for FCC or PTCRB certification testing.

Step 4:  Request Certification Testing

To start the device certification process, complete the AT&T Network Compatibility Testing Request Form document and submit it to developer.program@awsmail.att.com. Our business development group will analyze the requests prioritize and pursue certification of the device based on the provided business case justification.  You will receive a response regarding next steps within five business days.

The next step in the device certification process is to submit the online Solution Certification Request form.  Solution testing is a required step for all software that is produced for re-sale or distribution on AT&T's wireless network.  This testing is a separate step, but can be done in conjunction with the device certification testing.

Please note that all integrated devices must use RF modules that are already approved by AT&T. The integrated device may be submitted to AT&T for device certification upon successful completion of the required FCC and PTCRB certifications.

Step 5. Application review and acceptance

We will contact you once your certification applications are complete, reviewed and accepted.

At this time, the Solution testing team will schedule a joint review meeting among technical parties to fully understand the software to be tested, scope the work, schedule testing dates and understand the platforms and devices you are targeting. You will be asked to provide your software and any other applicable documentation, including use cases, whitepapers and other relevant documentation.

Step 6:  AT&T Testing

The AT&T device certification process is very straightforward and testing generally takes approximately 21 days after the device enters AT&T's lab.  AT&T will perform testing in our lab and field environments, as appropriate. After a device receives AT&T Network Compatibility device certification, you will receive a notification letter, logo, and logo usage guidelines, and your device will be added to the AT&T network compatible device listing on the devCentral Web site.

Step 7. AT&T Solution Certification Program Agreement

After testing is complete, AT&T will provide you with the test results. Upon passing certification, you will receive an AT&T Solution Certification Program Agreement. Once this agreement is executed, you will receive access to the AT&T Certified Solution logo and other benefits.

Fees

AT&T subsidizes testing fees to encourage developers to submit applications for certification on multiple platforms and devices. We understand that testing across platforms and devices will enable you to reach the broadest number of customers. While most testing processes charge per application, our fee structure is inclusive, allowing you to test software solutions on as many platforms and devices as necessary

Testing fees are as follows:

  • Initial fee, including all platforms and devices specified: $1,000
  • Re-test Fee: $500
